Hello! I’m Ali Hodgkinson, an artist living and working in Folkestone. You can see some of my work here. I have been teaching in this beautiful seaside town since 2015.

In-person classes and workshops

At Ali's Art Courses, I teach young people and adults to paint, helping them develop both confidence and practical ability. My classes focus on the traditional skills that underpin painting, including colour mixing, composition, light, tone and paint handling, while encouraging each student to trust their own instincts and develop a personal way of seeing.

 

Online sketchbook course

I've recently launched 7:7 Sketchbook Journey, a seven-week online course for adults who want to reconnect with drawing. It grew out of what I've noticed over more than a decade of teaching: young people often arrive in the art room feeling they belong there, while many adults arrive telling themselves the opposite. I studied Art History at the University of London and Portraiture at the Heatherley School of Fine Art in Chelsea. I have a PGCE from the University of Greenwich and have worked in a wide variety of educational settings at home and abroad, including Kensington and Chelsea College, where I was a Course Director.

 

I am DBS checked and have public liability insurance.
